'தமிழ் தெருவிழா' மார்க்கம் நகரில் புதிய பயணத்தை ஆரம்பிக்கிறது!
மார்க்கம், ஜூலை 13 – கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவையினால் (Canadian Tamil Congress) ஏற்பாடு செய்யப்பட்ட Tamil Fest 2026 இன் உத்தியோகபூர்வ அறிமுக விழா, ஜூலை 13, 2026 அன்று மார்க்கம் Pan Am Centre இல் சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது.
ஓகஸ்ட் 22 - 23 ஆகிய திகதிகளில் City of Markham இல் நடைபெறவுள்ள Tamil Fest 2026 இற்கான எதிர்பார்ப்பை அனைவர் மத்தியிலும் அதிகரித்த இந்த அறிமுக விழா, பெரும் வெற்றியடைந்தது.
10 ஆண்டுகளாக றொரண்டோவில் வெற்றிகரமாக நடைபெற்ற Tamil Fest, தனது 11ஆவது ஆண்டில் மார்க்கம் நகரில் புதிய அத்தியாயத்தை ஆரம்பிப்பது குறித்து இங்கு அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்டது.
கனடாவின் பல்வேறு இன, மொழி மக்களும் வாழும் முக்கிய நகரங்களில் ஒன்றான மார்க்கம் நகரின் ஆதரவுடன், தமிழர் பண்பாடு, கலை, பாரம்பரியத்தை உலகுக்கு எடுத்துச் சொல்லும் புதிய பயணமாக இது அமையும் என ஏற்பாட்டாளர்கள் தெரிவித்தனர்.
நிகழ்வு கனடா தேசிய கீதத்துடன் ஆரம்பமாகி, தொடர்ந்து தமிழ்த்தாய் வாழ்த்து இசைக்கப்பட்டது. கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவையின் வாழ்த்துச் செய்தியை பேரவையின் துணைத் தலைவர் துஷி ஞானப்பிரகாசம் வாசித்தார்.
அவர் தனது உரையில், "Tamil Fest என்பது தமிழர் மொழி, பண்பாடு, பாரம்பரியம், அடையாளத்தை உலகுக்கு பெருமையுடன் வெளிப்படுத்தும் திருவிழா. தமிழரின் வரலாறு, கலை, இசை, நடனம், இலக்கியம் மற்றும் உலகப் புகழ்பெற்ற தமிழர் உணவு கலாசாரத்தை அறிமுகப்படுத்தும் முக்கிய மேடையாக Tamil Fest விளங்குகிறது. இந்த விழா மார்க்கம் நகருக்கு இடமாற்றம் செய்யப்படுவது விழாவின் தொடர்ச்சியான வளர்ச்சியையும், மார்க்கம் நகரத்துடனான வலுவான உறவையும் பிரதிபலிக்கிறது" என்று தெரிவித்தார்.
இந்த நிகழ்வில் உரையாற்றிய மார்க்கம் மேயர் Frank Scarpitti தனது உரையில், Tamil Fest பெருவிழாவை மார்க்கம் நகரம் வரவேற்பதில் மிகுந்த மகிழ்ச்சி அடைவதாக தெரிவித்தார்.
அறிமுக விழாவில் பல்வேறு நகரசபை உறுப்பினர்கள், அரசியல் பிரதிநிதிகள் மற்றும் சமூக தலைவர்கள் பெருமளவில் கலந்துகொண்டிருப்பது, இந்த விழாவின் முக்கியத்துவத்தை எடுத்துக்காட்டுவதாக அவர் குறிப்பிட்டார்.
இங்கு மேலும் உரையாற்றிய மார்க்கம் நகர மேயர்,
"Tamil Fest இற்கு மார்க்கம் நகரம் முழுமையான ஆதரவை வழங்கும். தமிழர் சமூகத்தினர் மார்க்கம் நகருக்கும் கனடாவிற்கும் வழங்கிய பங்களிப்புகள் அளப்பரியவை" என்று பாராட்டினார்.
கடந்த ஆண்டுகளில் Tamil Fest இல் கலந்து கொண்ட அனுபவங்களை நினைவுகூர்ந்த அவர், அங்கிருந்த உற்சாகமான சூழலும், சுவைமிகு தமிழர் உணவுகளும் இன்னும் நினைவில் இருப்பதாக கூறி, Tamil Fest ஐ தமிழர் கலாசாரத்தின் மிகப்பெரிய கொண்டாட்டமாக வர்ணித்தார்.
இதனைத் தொடர்ந்து பாரம்பரிய பறை இசையின் முழக்கத்துடன் Tamil Fest 2026 அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாக அறிமுகப்படுத்தப்பட்டது. நினைவுகூரத்தக்க தருணமாக, மேயர் Frank Scarpitti தாமும் பறையை இசைத்து, ஆகஸ்ட் 22 - 23 ஆகிய விழாத் திகதிகளை அறிவித்து Tamil Fest 2026 ஐ உத்தியோகபூர்வமாக ஆரம்பித்து வைத்தார்.
பறை இசைத்த மேயரின் செயல், அரங்கில் கூடியிருந்தோரின் கரகோஷ வரவேற்பைப் பெற்றதுடன், தமிழர் பண்பாட்டை மார்க்கம் நகரம் அன்புடன் தழுவி வரவேற்கும் அடையாளமாகவும் அமைந்தது.
இந்த நிகழ்வில் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர்களான டொக்டர் Helena Jaczek மற்றும் Juanita Nathan ஆகியோரும் உரையாற்றினர். தமிழர் கலாசாரத்தின் பெருமையையும், கனடாவின் பன்முகத்தன்மையை மேலும் வலுப்படுத்துவதில் Tamil Fest வகிக்கும் முக்கிய பங்கையும் அவர்கள் பாராட்டினர்.
மேலும், Markham Regional Councillors Alan Ho, Jim Jones, நகரசபை உறுப்பினர்களான Ritch Lau, Andrew Keyes, Amanda Yeung Collucci, Nimisha Patel, Isa Lee உள்ளிட்டோர், York Regional Police பிரதிநிதிகள், சமூக அமைப்புகளின் தலைவர்கள், அரசியல் பிரதிநிதிகள், நிறுவன ஆதரவாளர்கள், கலைஞர்கள், வர்த்தக நிறுவனங்கள், தன்னார்வலர்கள் மற்றும் ஏராளமான சிறப்பு விருந்தினர்கள் இந்த அறிமுக விழாவில் கலந்துகொண்டனர்.
தமிழர் தெருவிழாவாக தொடங்கிய Tamil Fest, இன்று கனடாவின் மிகப்பெரிய கலாசார மற்றும் பொருளாதார விழாக்களில் ஒன்றாக வளர்ச்சி பெற்றுள்ளது.
ஆண்டுதோறும் 250,000 அதிகமான மக்கள் இந்த விழாவில் பங்கேற்கின்றனர். 100 இற்கும் மேற்பட்ட வர்த்தகக் கூடங்கள், 150 இற்கும் அதிகமான கலைஞர்களின் நிகழ்ச்சிகள், 300 இற்கும் மேற்பட்ட தன்னார்வலர்களின் பங்களிப்பு ஆகியவற்றுடன் இரண்டு நாட்கள் கோலாகலமாக இந்த நிகழ்வு நடைபெறுகிறது.
இந்த விழா, மார்க்கம் நகரத்தில் நடைபெறுவது றொரண்டோ பெரும்பாகத்தில் (GTA) ஒரு முக்கிய கலாசார மைல்கல்லாக கருதப்படுகிறது.
Tamil Fest 2026 இன் அறிமுக விழா வெற்றிகரமாக நிறைவடைந்துள்ள நிலையில், இந்த ஆண்டின் விழாவும் தமிழர் பாரம்பரியம், கலாசாரம், சமூக ஒற்றுமையை உலகுக்கு எடுத்துரைக்கும் மறக்கமுடியாத கொண்டாட்டமாக அமையும் என ஏற்பாட்டாளர்கள் நம்பிக்கை தெரிவித்துள்ளனர்.
"Tamil Fest என்பது அனைவருக்குமான விழா. மீண்டும் ஒன்றிணைவோம். நமது அடையாளத்தை பெருமையுடன் கொண்டாடுவோம். Tamil Fest இன் 11ஆவது ஆண்டை இதுவரை இல்லாத அளவுக்கு மிகப்பெரிய மறக்கமுடியாத விழாவாக மாற்றுவோம்" என கனடியத் தமிழர் பேரவை பொதுமக்களுக்கு அழைப்பு விடுத்துள்ளது.
Tamil Fest 2026 Official Launch Marks the Beginning of a New Chapter in Markham
The official launch of Tamil Fest 2026 was held on July 13, 2026, at the Markham Pan Am Centre. The launch event was a tremendous success, building excitement and momentum for Tamil Fest 2026, which will take place on August 22 & 23, 2026, in the City of Markham. As the festival celebrates its 11th year, it officially begins an exciting new chapter after ten successful years in the City of Toronto. With the enthusiastic support of the City of Markham, Tamil Fest is set to bring its vibrant celebration of Tamil culture to one of Canada’s most diverse and dynamic communities.
The evening commenced with the Canadian National Anthem, followed by Tamil Thai Vazhthu. Although Canadian Tamil Congress President was unable to attend the event, his message was delivered by Vice President Dushy Gnanapragasam. In his remarks, he highlighted that Tamil Fest is a celebration of the Tamil language, culture, traditions, and shared heritage. He emphasized that the festival provides an opportunity to proudly showcase the rich history, vibrant arts, music, dance, literature, and world-renowned cuisine of the Tamil people. He also described this year’s move to Markham as an exciting milestone that reflects the continued growth of the festival and the strong partnership with the City of Markham.
Mayor Frank Scarpitti delivered an energetic and inspiring address, expressing his excitement about welcoming Tamil Fest to Markham. He noted that the presence of numerous councillors, dignitaries, and community leaders at the launch demonstrated the significance of the event and the enthusiasm surrounding its arrival in the city. Mayor Scarpitti reaffirmed the City of Markham’s commitment to supporting Tamil Fest and acknowledged the tremendous contributions the Tamil community has made to Markham and to Canada. Reflecting on his past visits to the festival, he fondly recalled the incredible atmosphere and the unforgettable Tamil cuisine, describing Tamil Fest as a remarkable celebration of Tamil culture and community.
The official launch was announced with the powerful rhythms of the traditional Tamil Parai. In a memorable moment, Mayor Frank Scarpitti officially launched Tamil Fest 2026 by announcing the festival dates while joining the Parai drummer and playing the instrument himself. The gesture was met with enthusiastic applause from the audience and reflected the City’s warm embrace of Tamil culture as it welcomed Tamil Fest to its new home in Markham.
Members of Parliament Hon. Dr. Helena Jaczek and Juanita Nathan also addressed the audience, sharing their appreciation for the festival’s cultural significance and its role in strengthening Canada’s multicultural fabric.
The launch was attended by Markham Regional Councillors Alan Ho and Jim Jones, Councillors Ritch Lau, Andrew Keyes, Amanda Yeung Collucci, Nimisha Patel, and Isa Lee, along with representatives from York Regional Police, community leaders, elected officials, corporate sponsors, performing artists, business representatives, volunteers, and many distinguished guests who came together to celebrate the official launch of Tamil Fest’s 11th year.
Tamil Fest has grown into a major cultural and economic celebration that transforms the community over two exciting days. Every year, the festival welcomes more than 250,000 visitors, features over 100 street vendors, showcases more than 150 performing artists, and is made possible through the dedication of over 300 volunteers. Bringing this landmark festival to the heart of Markham represents an important cultural milestone for the Greater Toronto Area and further strengthens the city’s reputation as a destination that celebrates diversity and inclusion.
